This is a documentary about a rare and successful environmental campaign — to keep a “low level” nuclear waste dump out of NY. This campaign was so successful, the entire siting project, which had a national scope, was abandoned. Shaleshock Media is very pleased to present this documentary, and asks the modern Shale-Gas movement to take lessons from history. This internet presentation is dedicated to Spike Jones. Sorry about the typos on the intro slate. May fix that someday….

I remained for some of the discussion after last night’s screening of “My Name is Allegheny County” at the Glen Theater. If you haven’t seen it, it is here http://shaleshockmedia.org/2011/12/05/my-name-is-allegany-county/
But what does the struggle then, which led then Governor Mario Cuomo to order Allegheny County off limits for citing a nuclear waste facility, inform us about our current struggle against fracking and Inergy’s planned LPG storage facility? The answer given by Spike Jones is that real solutions come from the grassroots. “Eveyone you saw in the movie is in this room” he said, referring to the activist with Gas Free Seneca, Coalition to Protect NY, Frack Free New York, and everyone of us in the auditorium. But when the question became more specific, Spike Jones really didn’t have a precise strategic answer how to deal with the a town board that has passed a “friend of natural gas” resolution despite petitions and demonstrated support for a ban or moratorium. So it is up to us to figure out how to proceed in the current situation in the southern tier. Any suggestions?
I desperately need help from the people who organized the community around opposition to this! I am looking at an April 3,2013 meeting about a power plant here in my township, North Beaver County, Pa and most people are buying the industry bs about jobs etc and not looking at the permits to dump toxic sludge in the river above areas where they draw drinking water out of the same river. I need your help! Please!
